It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Harold “Bud” Soden at the age of 82, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, on the evening of January 8th, 2024 surrounded by his loving family at the St. Joseph Hospice in Sarnia, ON.

Bud leaves behind his wife Elizabeth (Cooper) Soden, his daughter, Marnie Joleun and her husband, Dwayne, and their children, Tyler Joleun (Lottie Graf), Kailey Dutourgeerling (Josh) and great grandchild Xander, Melanie Joleun (Tony Goodwin); his son, Phillip Soden and wife Leanne, and their children, Corey Soden (Adrianna), Beth Soden (Jacob Sonier) and his youngest brother Larry Soden (Janice) as well as his wife’s siblings and many nieces and nephews in both the Soden and Cooper families. Predeceased by brothers Terry and Paul Soden.

Bud had many hobbies and interests including obtaining a private pilot licence, hunting, fishing, boating, sailing and golf.  He excelled at math, chemistry and the daily crossword.  An avid chef, Bud loved to cook amazing dishes for his guests and later perfected the art of making muffins and sharing them every day with family, friends and neighbours.

A Dow Chemical retiree, Bud enjoyed being a member of OFAH, the Bluewater Anglers and volunteered for many years as a driver for the Canadian Cancer Society.  He was known as the “big guy” with an even bigger heart, always offering a helping hand to family and friends in need.

Bud, Dad, Papa and Grand Papa… you will be missed, and always in our hearts.

Cremation has taken place and a private family gathering held at Lakeview cemetery. A celebration of Bud’s life will be held at a later date in the spring. Family would like to thank the Hospice staff for the excellent care they provided and to the many family, friends and neighbours who took the time to call and visit during this difficult time. Any donations in Bud’s memory can be made to the St Joseph’s Hospice 475 Christina Street North, Sarnia, ON  N7T 5W3 (519-337-0537) either in person, by phone, cheque or online
