Surrounded by loving family, Eileen MacDiarmid, 97, died very peacefully at Twin Lakes Retirement Home on November 17.
She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Cedric MacDiarmid and her eldest daughter Susan Daws.
Survived by her devoted daughters; Shirley (Steve Percival), Debra (John Chaban) and son-in-law Fred Daws. Also survived by her treasured grandchildren Mike Daws (Sarah), Matt Daws (Julie) and Melanie Daws, Jennifer Rinaldo (Mark), Brian Percival (Desiree), Kim O'Neill (John), Christine Coles, and 11 great grandchildren - Maggie, Bridget, Andrew, Kristy, Adam, Madeline, Ben, Charlotte, Alexis, Marissa, and Sophia.
Eileen was born and raised in New Brunswick. She moved to Sarnia with her husband in 1947, and resided there for the rest of their lives. She recently moved from her home of 68 years, into a retirement community, where she spent the last few months of her life.
Eileen was an avid bridge player and achieved the rank of Sapphire Life Master, a great accomplishment in the duplicate bridge world. She loved to bowl, read, knit, sew, play scrabble, and in her later years she played numerous word games on her I-Pad. Her summers were spent making lots of jams, pickles and relishes which she generously shared with her family and friends. She will be fondly remembered for her great sense of humour, always laughing, and enjoying or telling a funny story.
Her family was her greatest joy. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. We will all miss her dearly.
Special thanks go to the caring staff of Twin Lakes Retirement Home. At her request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place. The family will have a private celebration of life at a later date. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in her memory would be greatly appreciated.
